National Archives: African American Heritage
This site offers access to records created or received by the Federal Government’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches. These records, spanning from pre-federal times to today, include textual documents, microfilm, maps and charts, architectural and engineering plans, aerial photographs, motion picture reels, video recordings, sound recordings, computer data sets, and still images. The African American Heritage Collection at the National Archives documents the experiences of Blacks in America through a comprehensive collection of images, records, and videos that cover African American slavery and the international slave trade, the Black Power Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, The Great Migration, Voting Rights history, and African Americans in WWI.
